GM Puts Safety First

With more than 91 vehicles in its portfolio, GM has a huge responsibility when it comes to creating safe vehicles that are easy to drive and long-lasting. GM is the parent company for some of the most well-known names in vehicle manufacturing, including Chevrolet, Buick®, Pontiac, GMC, Saturn, HUMMER®, Saab, and Cadillac.

GM employs a three-point approach to safety. The company doesn’t just look at the safety features that will keep you safe during a collision. Instead, the company looks for ways to manufacture vehicles that are safer to drive before a collision, offer ample protection during a collision, and help to protect you right after a collision.

Whether you currently own a GM vehicle or are looking to buy one, check out these safety features, which may make you lean in the GM direction:

Before a Collision

There are a variety of pre-collision safety systems that you can expect to see on a GM vehicle. These features include:

·         StabiliTrak™ Advantage, which uses sensors to help you stay in control while driving through tough winter conditions, wet pavement, and more. StabiliTrak™ and similar systems have been proven to decrease the chances of getting into a single-vehicle crash caused by loss of control in inclement weather.

·         Antilock Brake System (ABS), this system comes standard in many GM vehicles and helps to keep your wheels from locking when you slam on the brakes. With the ABS, you will have an easier time staying in control of the car.

During a Collision

Air bags have proven to be one of the most effective safety tools for protecting passengers during a collision. GM vehicles feature Dual-Depth air bags, which was innovated by GM. Using the Dual-Depth air bag, frontal air bags will produce a customized response during a collision based on seat position, the use of a safety belt, and the force of the collision itself.

GM not only was the first company to develop Dual-Depth air bags, but they also were the first company to use child-friendly Side-Impact Air Bags. GM also uses Advanced Air Bags and a Passenger Sensing System to deploy air bags as needed. Some GM vehicles also come with Head Curtain Air Bags to help protect passengers during a vehicle roll-over situation.

After a Collision

Time is of the essence when it comes to getting help after a collision. That’s why GM offers several different options for post-collision safety. These options include OnStar, which will notify emergency responders if a crash occurs in your vehicle through its automatic crash response system. GM also offers Roadside Assistance 24 hours a day year-round.
