The GMC Terrain has a brand new style for the 2018 model-year, and that’s putting it mildly. With its C-shaped LED headlights and more dynamic lines than ever before, the 2018 Terrain is pushing the industry standard about what we consider a compact SUV.

Redesigned from bumper to bumper, the 2018 Terrain offers an array of new features that add substance to its rugged and bold design. Both under the hood and in the cockpit, the new Terrain has a lot to offer.

Three engines for the 2018 GMC Terrain

The 2018 Terrain now offers a quite comprehensive selection of powertrains that include three new engines.

The old 2.4-liter entry-level engine was abandoned and replaced by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. Offering 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, this engine can be found in the SL and SLE trim levels.

For more power, GM also offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine with truly impressive efficiency. It is more powerful, while being more fuel-efficient than anything the Terrain has ever offered under its hood. This engine develops a total output of 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, with an average fuel consumption rating of 11.2 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 9.0 liters per 100 kilometers on the road. Like the entry-level engine, the 2.0-liter is paired with a new nine-speed automatic transmission.

As if that wasn't enough, the 2018 Terrain is also available with a brand new 1.6-liter diesel engine. Yes, a diesel engine is now available with the GMC Terrain! With 137 horsepower and an impressive 240 lb-ft of torque, the Terrain diesel is likely to appeal to motorists in search of good towing capability that doesn’t come at the expense of fuel economy. The diesel engine is available on the SL, SLE, and SLT trims.

A high-end touch with the 2018 GMC Terrain

It is not only the bodywork of the GMC Terrain that has been revamped for 2018. Its interior has also been revised from A to Z and now features high-quality materials usually reserved for luxury brands. With its standard leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum trim and a redesigned center console, the GMC Terrain raises the bar at all levels. Thanks to an infotainment system controlled by an 8-inch touchscreen, the 2018 Terrain also offers exemplary connectivity.
